Winter Wedding Flowers
Winter in the Northern Hemisphere (USA, Canada, Europe) is in December, January and February; while in the
Southern Hemisphere (Australia, New Zealand, South America and South America) the Winter months are June, July and
August.
Flowers are the focal point of any wedding ceremony, so choosing to get
married during the winter months presents some unique challenges, since there are far fewer flowers in bloom
during the colder season.
Of course, if you have lots of money to spend on floral arrangements, your wedding florist can arrange to have
almost any flowers your heart desires flown in from distant parts of the globe. But the cost of importing out of
season flowers from overseas for the wedding celebrations is prohibitive to most ordinary mortals.
Remember that most couples, the wedding flowers are going to be the most expensive item in the whole budget for
getting married.
You probably won't want a cost blowout on the floral arrangements, so be sure to discuss the options with your
florist.
But even if you stay with locally-grown wedding flowers, there will still be many attractive selections you can
make. You will be able to select from blooms that occur naturally in your area throughout the winter time.
And you can also pick from flower varieties that growers cultivate all the year round, indoors, in
climate-controlled greenhouses.
Gerberas, roses and tulips can all be obtained, but you may need to pay a bit more since these species are more
difficult to get hold of during winter.
Think of the mainstay wedding flowers which are seen all the time during the other seasons, for these can be
used for your winter wedding as well.
Just because winter time is a not the most common time of year to have a wedding, it doesn't mean you can't
break with tradition. You might think of it as a perfect time to experiment with some unique winter flowers.
In fact, you can show everyone your creative side through your careful choice of wedding flowers.
If it is available, you might wish to take a look at anigozanthos. This is a popular Australian flower with
unique colors including lime greens and pastel shades of pink.
The amaryllis is another very popular winter flower that has delightfully-colorful blooms that are ideal for
bridal flowers.
Please bear in mind that winter turns people's thoughts to the family pleasures of Christmas and the new year
holidays. If you desire, you can always add a winter season mood to your flower arrangements. Just include some ivy
leaves, or sprigs of holly with its bright red berries... That's if you can get them. And if your wedding day is
closer to St Valentine's Day, then you might go for a Love theme instead. It's all up to you.
Selecting the right winter wedding flowers may seem a bit hard at first, but make the effort and you will find
its a great opportunity for you to create a beautiful wedding experience that will be remembered for years to
come.
